Las Nencias valley is located 3000 m above sea level in Mendoza, Argentina, with the back drop view of Marmolejo glacier amid the Andes Mountains. It is in this valley, accessible only on horseback or on foot, where we carry out several outdoor activities every year with our family. The most distinctive feature of this place is the wild growth of “nencias” (gentianella multicaulis), a variety of a stunning bluish – purple flower.
These beautiful flowers with their perseverance to survive amid the cold and roughness have inspired us to name to our wines.
We are a family company with a long history in the winemaking industry, starting four generations ago with Juan Giol, who founded a winery that he later sold to the estate and it became the first estate winery, hence making him the most famous winemaker of early last century in Mendoza.
The wine making tradition continues with the Gargantini and Toso families and it is nowadays renewed by Maria Marta Giol and her husband Angel Morchio and it is sustained by their eldest daughter Maria de los Angeles Morchio Giol, who leads the fifth generation.
